چکیده

PCI JOURNAL This paper presents the results of nonlinear fi nite element analyses conducted to model the behavior of L-shaped, precast, prestressed concrete spandrels constructed with open web reinforcement. The fi nite element model was calibrated using experimental results from recent tests of slender, L-shaped, precast, prestressed concrete spandrels. Detailed correlative studies between analytical and experimental results are presented, demonstrating the capability of the fi nite element program to describe the observed experimental behavior. The feasibility of using open web reinforcement in compact, L-shaped, precast, prestressed concrete spandrels to achieve a more construction-friendly reinforcement scheme is also examined. Five different web reinforcement confi gurations for the compact spandrels were studied in order to evaluate the contribution of closed stirrups to the spandrels’ shear-torsion behavior. The behavior, ultimate load-carrying capacity, and mode of failure of both the slender and compact L-shaped precast, prestressed concrete spandrels are presented. For loading values near the ultimate, the out-of-plane bending behavior of compact, L-shaped, precast, prestressed concrete spandrels is strongly infl uenced by the web-reinforcement confi guration. Results from the analysis show that for long-span, compact spandrels, open web reinforcement can be used effectively to resist torsional forces throughout the member. Development and Implementation of Advanced It in the North American Precast Concrete Industry

We report on a large-scale effort to integrate advanced design and engineering information technologies (IT) in the North American precast/prestressed concrete industry. The effort has been undertaken by a consortium of precast producer companies formed specifically for the task. The effort involved significant process modeling work, using a unique method and set of tools. It led to the develop...

COMPARATIVE COSTS OF THE PRODUCTION, TRANSPORT AND ASSEMBLY STAGES OF PRESTRESSED PRECAST SLABS USING GENETIC ALGORITHMS

In the precast structures, optimization of structural elements is of great interest mainly due to a more rationalized way that elements are produced. There are several elements of precast prestressed concrete that are objects of study in optimization processes, as the prestressed joist applied in buildings slabs. This article inquires into cost minimization of continuous and simply supported sl...

Optimization of Precast Prestressed Concrete Bridge Girder Systems

60 A practical approach to the optimal design of precast, prestressed concrete highway bridge girder systems is presented. The approach aims at standardizing the optimal design of bridge systems, as opposed to standardizing girder sections. Structural system optimization is shown to be more relevant than conventional girder optimization for an arbitrarily chosen structural system. Bridge system...

Ductility of Prestressed and Partially Prestressed Concrete Beam Sections

D analyses of structures responding elastically to ground motions recorded during severe earthquakes have shown that the theoretical response inertia loads are generally significantly greater than the static design lateral loads recommended by codes. Hence, structures designed for the lateral earthquake loads recommended by codes can only survive severe earthquakes if they have sufficient ducti...
